The Southern Pines Rugby Club (SOPI Rugby) will host a community-focused Taco Cook-Off fundraiser during Cinco de Mayo weekend on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Railhouse Brewery in downtown Aberdeen. The event will run from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM and aims to bring together local residents, food enthusiasts, and supporters of grassroots sports.
The Taco Cook-Off will feature local chefs and community participants competing in two categories — Professional and Amateur — to create the best taco in the Sandhills region. Attendees will have the opportunity to sample entries from all competitors and vote to determine the winners in each division.
Admission is priced at $10 per person, with all proceeds directly supporting SOPI Rugby’s youth and adult programs. Funds raised will help cover equipment, travel, and operational costs for teams across Moore County and the surrounding Sandhills region.
“This event is an important part of how we sustain and grow rugby in our community,” organizers said. “It not only raises funds but also brings people together in a fun and inclusive environment.”
The event is designed to be family-friendly, with food, live competition, and beverages available throughout the afternoon. Railhouse Brewery will offer craft beer selections for purchase separately.
SOPI Rugby operates as a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting teamwork, discipline, and athletic development through rugby. The club fields both youth and adult teams and continues to expand its reach across the region.
Located at 105 E South St, Aberdeen, NC, Railhouse Brewery provides convenient access and on-site parking for attendees traveling from nearby communities including Southern Pines, Pinehurst, and Fayetteville.
